Dr. Pinheiro and Dr. Kilcrease place the October 2009 Apostolic Constitution issued by Pope Benedict XVI in historical context. By tracing the history of ritualism and Anglo-Catholicism in England since the 1500s, Dr. Kilcrease shows that the deeper issue underlying Benedict's support for corporate reunion with the Anglican Rite are nothing new but rather are rooted in the nature of the Reformation in England and more recently the Oxford Movement of the 1830s and 1840s.
Guest: Dr. Bethany Kilcrease, Assistant Professor of History, Aquinas College
On this weekly program, historian, professor, and author, Dr. John C. Pinheiro, interviews scholars and the men and women who made history about how we are shaped by what has gone before. Rooted in Edmund Burke's conception of the world as a "community of souls" connecting past, present, and future generations, "Past is Prologue" offers serious reflection on the past. The conversations on "Past is Prologue" aim to educate, to edify, and to serve as a warning against unwarranted nostalgia, myopic presentism, and rootless progressivism.
