Dr. John C. Pinheiro (Ph.D., University of Tennessee, 2001) is an historian of the antebellum United States. He co-edited volume 12 of the Presidential Series of the Papers of George Washington, which he along with his co-editor presented to President Bush in an Oval Office ceremony in April 2005, only the third time since 1950 that a president has thus honored an individual documentary volume. His publications include articles on George Washington and on the early American republic. Dr. Pinheiro has also written for the History News Service and appeared on National Public Radio and CSPAN.
Consulting Editor for the presidency of James K. Polk at the University of Virginia's Miller Center of Public Affairs, Dr. Pinheiro is most recently the author of Manifest Ambition: James K. Polk and Civil-Military Relations during the Mexican War (Praeger, 2007). He is available for speaking engagements on George Washington, the Age of Jackson, and the history surrounding the Mexican War.
